Questions many parents ask when visiting a childcare service. Print this page or save it on your phone. This is a general list, not advice.
- What are your opening hours and closure days (public holidays, end of year)?
- What ages do you take, and how are rooms or groups organised?
- How many children are there per educator in each age group?
- What are the fees, and what is included (meals, nappies, excursions)?
- Is there a waiting list? How do I join it?
- How do you settle a new child in?
- What does a normal day look like? How much time is spent outdoors?
- How are meals, sleep and rest times handled? Can you meet dietary or cultural needs?
- How do you keep parents updated during the day?
- What happens if my child is sick or has an accident?
- How do you support children with additional needs, or who speak another language at home?
- Can I see the latest official inspection or rating report? (Ask the service, or check the regulator’s website.)
- Is the service registered or licensed with the government, and can I claim a subsidy there?
